Shelby County Retired Teachers Association Annual Scholarship

To be eligible, a student must be enrolled now in a college program in the field of education.  The applicant cannot be an upcoming high school graduate.  A $500 scholarship is available.  For more information or questions, contact the guidance counselor at your local school or call Karen Gariety at 937.492.3569.

Free Smoke Detectors

The Sidney Department of Fire & Emergency Services reminds residents to check their smoke detectors for readiness to include activation and location.  One more item to ponder; sleep with your bedroom door closed.  A closed door will slow the spread of smoke, heat and flame.  Stop by Fire Station #1 at 222 West Poplar Street to find out if you qualify for a free smoke detector.

Free Smoke Alarms From American Red Cross

Seven times a day, someone dies in a home fire in the United States.  The Northern Miami Valley Ohio Red Cross is offering to install free smoke alarms with 10-year lithium batteries to any home in the region.  Simply call the office in your region to schedule an appointment.  In Sidney call 492.6151, Troy 332.1414, Greenville 548.1002 & Springfield 399.3872 or online at redcross.org/NMVO.
